System requirements
Most of our software runs right in your web browser, so the requirements are basically whatever a modern browser already runs on. Questions? Call Technical Support at 888-477-9707 — calls from technicians, computer stores, and IT professionals are welcome.
Supported operating systems
What it takes to run Wayne Reaves
A modern web browser
Wayne Reaves DMS, Title Pawn, Repair Shop, and Checkbook
- Use the latest version of a modern browser — Chrome, Firefox, Edge, or Safari — kept up to date so it meets FTC security requirements.
- If your device runs a current browser, it runs our software: a Windows PC, a Mac, a Chromebook, Linux, or an iPad.
- You can run it from a phone in a pinch, but for day-to-day work it's best on an iPad-style tablet or a regular computer with a modern browser and a full-size screen.
Windows (legacy & DotNet desktop)
Only for the installed Car Program
- Windows 10 & 11 Professional (32/64-bit), version 22H2 or later.
- Home editions are not recommended; Starter and Basic editions are not supported.
- Windows 10S/11S must be taken out of S Mode. Windows on a Mac via Parallels is not supported.
- Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8.0/8.1, and other operating systems are not supported.
Hardware & network
Recommended equipment
Screen
A minimum resolution of 1280×1024 for desktop programs (mobile/tablet viewing scales automatically).
Processor (CPU)
A current multi-core processor — Intel Core i5/i7 (12th generation or newer) or AMD Ryzen 5/7 (5000 series or newer). 6 cores or more recommended; a faster CPU helps with large reports and multitasking.
Memory (RAM)
16 GB recommended (8 GB minimum). More memory keeps things responsive with several browser tabs or programs open.
Storage
A solid-state drive (SSD), 500 GB or larger, with at least 250 GB free. Keep free space above 25% of the total, with room for temp files and print jobs.
Printer
Business-class duplex laser printer with PCL5/6 drivers (Canon may use UFR2; prefer PCL6 V3). Automatic duplex is required. Inkjet and wireless printing are not supported.
Network & internet
Wired Gigabit (1000 Mbps) Ethernet. For the online program, a minimum of 8 Mbps down / 2.5 Mbps up per computer and ping under 100 ms. Satellite, cellular/mobile, and public hotspots usually will not work reliably.
We require that the initial setup and configuration of your computer network be done by a certified technician familiar with networking, internet security, and the FTC's Safeguards Rule.
Other requirements
Backups, security & good practice
Backups
Data for our browser-based products is backed up on our secured cloud servers — but we don't back up your local programs, documents, or other files. If you use the legacy desktop Car Program, you must keep your own external backup device (we recommend two devices rotated daily, replaced annually, with one leaving the building each night) plus a secured cloud backup, and a written disaster-recovery plan.
Internet security
Security software must have an active subscription licensed for commercial/business use and be configurable. Your IT technician must configure it to work with our program.
Choosing a computer
Avoid low-end bargain computers — they're built for light home use and are underpowered for business. No computer more than three years old should be used in a business environment unless you have dedicated technical staff. Call us with a model's specs and we'll tell you if it fits.
What we can't support
Problems caused by unsupported configurations, printer incompatibility, viruses/malware, corrupted browser or OS files, or activation issues may be beyond what we can resolve — in those cases we may recommend upgrading your computer or printer. We also do not support Windows Server domain configurations, NAS devices, or appliance servers.
